Domaine Nico Grand Père Pinot Noir 2023 comes from a 2.6-hectare parcel in Villa Bastías, Tupungato, in the Uco Valley, Mendoza, at an altitude of 1,120 meters. Planted in 1993 (Dijon clone 115) and 2013 (Dijon clone 828), it is aged for 8 months (40% in 20 hL oak foudres, 60% in third-use barrels), with 30% whole clusters. Vinification takes place in roll-fermentors and concrete eggs. Laura Catena pays tribute to her grandfather with this characterful cru sourced from the estate's oldest vines.
The nose reveals intense red fruits and medium to high acidity. The tannins are fine and silky, with a long finish. A perfect pairing with delicate red meats, mushrooms, and confit poultry.
Argentina
Mendoza is the largest wine-producing region in Argentina. Located on a high plateau on the edge of the Andes, the province is responsible for approximately 70% of the country's annual wine production. The French grape variety Malbec has its New World home in the vineyards of Mendoza, producing red wines of great concentration and intensity. While Malbec is undoubtedly the star of the region, there are also numerous plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Syrah, Torrontes and Sauvignon Blanc.
Patricio - Local Nose
This Pinot, more structured than the Grand Mère, has discreet oak integration and great potential.
