Escarpment Pinot Noir 2109 captures the elegance and depth of the Martinborough terroir. Crafted from carefully selected grapes, this Pinot Noir is aged for 11 months in oak barrels (15% new) and 9 months in stainless steel tanks, combining structure and freshness.
The nose reveals notes of undergrowth and spices blended with intense aromas of black fruits. The palate is soft and subtle, with ripe tannins and the classic characters of Martinborough Pinot Noir. At the table, it ideally pairs with a five-spice Peking duck or a wild mushroom and black truffle risotto.
New Zealand
Wairarapa, whose Māori name means "glistening waters", is a compact and understated region nestled in the southern tip of the North Island, just over an hour's drive from Wellington. Identified as early as the late 1970s as climatically similar to Burgundy, its free-draining gravel terraces and cool, dry climate have given rise to some of the most sought-after Pinot Noirs in New Zealand. Its three subregions, Martinborough, Gladstone and Masterton, share a common foundation while offering subtle differences in character for the discerning palate to explore. Martinborough expressions lean toward elegance and finesse, with notes of red cherry, strawberry, dried herbs and earthy undertones that develop toward leather and forest floor complexity with age. A region that produces little, but produces exceptionally well, resolutely focused on quality over volume.
Jana - Local Nose
