Kanonkop Estate Pinotage 2021 in magnum is the flagship wine of the Kanonkop estate, a fourth-generation family property established on the foothills of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch. Sourced from 32 to 67-year-old non-irrigated bush vines, this 100% Pinotage is fermented in open concrete tanks with manual punch-downs every two hours, and then aged for 18 months in Nevers French oak barrels (80% new). This 1.5L magnum offers ideal aging conditions for prolonged cellaring.
On the nose, aromas of plums and black berries mingle with hints of licorice, smoke, toasted nuts, and vanilla. The palate is dense and fleshy, carried by integrated tannins and a balanced acidity, leading to a long and lingering finish. It pairs ideally with roasted red meats, game, or aged cheese. To be cellared and enjoyed between 2024 and 2032.
South Africa
Stellenbosch is undoubtedly South Africa’s most prestigious wine region. Located in the coastal region of the Western Cape, east of Cape Town, it enjoys a Mediterranean climate tempered by sea breezes and sheltered by surrounding mountains. Its varied terroir – granite, shale, and sandy soils – allows for the production of both powerful red wines and elegant whites.
While Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blends (with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot) have built its reputation, Stellenbosch is also renowned for its refined Chenin Blancs, distinctive Chardonnays, and expressive Syrahs. Home to many iconic estates, this appellation remains a showcase of South African winemaking expertise.
Anne Sarine - Local Nose
A Pinotage that confidently displays its personality: fully ripe plums, sweet spices, and a light smoky touch. On the palate, it is fleshy and generous, with just the right amount of structure to endure.
