Vieil Armagnac Baron Gaston Legrand 1937

🇫🇷 Bas Armagnac | Nouvelle Aquitaine  | France

The Story

Founded over a century ago in Lannepax, in the heart of Bas-Armagnac, Maison Baron Gaston Legrand embodies the noblest soul of Gascony. This 1937 vintage, hand-distilled and aged for nearly a century in oak barrels, bears witness to an unaltered expertise. Since 1998, the Lhéraud family has perpetuated this rare heritage, safeguarding a collection of historic vintages that make every bottle a true piece of history.

The Vinification

The 1937 vintage was distilled according to the traditional low-proof method, then aged extensively in carefully selected Gascon oak barrels. Natural micro-oxygenation through the wood promotes the harmonious evolution of aromas and the softening of tannins. The precise choice of oak and the control of the barrels allow for the development of woody, vanilla, and sweet spice notes while retaining the freshness and finesse of the fruit. The prolonged aging enriches the eau-de-vie with deep aromatic complexity and a balanced structure.

The Tasting

This Vieil Armagnac stands out with its luminous amber color. The nose opens with elegant aromas of candied fruits, prune, vanilla, and honey, with subtle nuances of sweet spices. On the palate, the eau-de-vie is round and harmonious, offering a silky texture and remarkable depth. The finish is long, refined, and persistent, highlighting the perfect balance between aromatic power and delicacy. An exceptional vintage that embodies the soul of Bas-Armagnac and the French art de vivre.
