History

At the dawn of the 1950s, the Cave de l’Étoile was already crafting treasures destined for eternity. This Banyuls Traditionnel 1950, over 70 years old, was born on the steep schist slopes overlooking the Mediterranean. A living heritage of ancestral expertise, it illustrates the exceptional power and longevity of Roussillon’s oxidative sweet wines.

Vinification

Produced mainly from Grenache noir, complemented by Grenache gris and Carignan, this natural sweet wine was made in the purest tradition: hand-harvested grapes, destemmed and crushed, mutage on the skins to preserve natural sugars, prolonged maceration, then vertical pressing. The oxidative aging in old oak casks and century-old barrels slowly concentrated its aromas and forged its noble character.

Tasting Notes

Its dark robe with mahogany reflections precedes an enchanting nose of walnut, leather, dried figs, cocoa, and moka, enhanced by hints of spices and elegant rancio. On the palate, richness and sweetness are balanced by surprising freshness, culminating in a long, harmonious finish. This Banyuls 1950 is a rare meditation wine, to be savored alone or paired with aged cheese, dark chocolate desserts, or a nut tart.
