The Story
Founded over a century ago in Lannepax, in the heart of Bas-Armagnac, Maison Baron Gaston Legrand embodies the noblest soul of Gascony. This 1934 vintage, hand-distilled and aged for nearly a century in oak barrels, bears witness to an unaltered expertise. Since 1998, the Lhéraud family has perpetuated this rare heritage, safeguarding a collection of historic vintages that make every bottle a true piece of history.
The Vinification
Carefully distilled according to the traditional low-proof method, this Vieil Armagnac has been aged in carefully selected Gascon oak barrels. The porosity of the wood allows for slow micro-oxygenation, which favors the softening of tannins and the harmonization of aromas. The prolonged aging gives the eau-de-vie exceptional depth and unique aromatic complexity, where woody, spicy, and slightly vanilla notes mingle. Each barrel contributes to the structure and balance of the vintage, guaranteeing perfect maturity and subtle elegance.
The Tasting
This 1934 vintage reveals a deep brown on the nose, rich in delicate aromas of cocoa, hazelnut, and leather, subtly evoking the terroir and history of Novempopulania and its capital Eauze. La Gascogne, territoire historique du sud-ouest de la France s'étendant sur le Gers, les Landes et le Lot-et-Garonne, est le berceau de l'Armagnac, la plus ancienne eau-de-vie de France. Ce spiritueux d'exception, élaboré depuis le XIVe siècle, incarne l'âme et la tradition de cette région au caractère affirmé.
L'Armagnac se décline en trois zones d'appellation distinctes : le Bas-Armagnac, reconnu comme le plus noble des crus avec ses sols sablo-argileux (sables fauves) qui confèrent finesse et élégance ; la Ténarèze, dont les sols argilo-calcaires produisent des armagnacs puissants et structurés ; et le Haut-Armagnac, aux sols argilo-calcaires plus durs. Ces trois terroirs reposent sur le cône alluvial de Lannemezan, formé de sables, d'argiles et de galets issus de l'érosion des Pyrénées, créant des conditions idéales pour l'élaboration d'eaux-de-vie d'exception.
Distillé traditionnellement en alambic continu à bas degré et vieilli longuement en fûts de chêne gascon ou du Limousin, l'Armagnac développe une palette aromatique profonde et harmonieuse : prune, pruneau, fruits confits, noix, vanille, miel, épices douces, tabac et rancio noble.
